Proposed model for GiHDACs regulating LCA accumulation. GiHDACs reduce the acetylation level of histone H3 at lysine residues in LCA biosynthetic genes, thereby inhibiting the expression of these genes and reducing the accumulation of LCA. HDAC inhibitors, on the other hand, counteract the inhibitory effect of GiHDACs on LCA accumulation by inhibiting the deacetylase activity of GiHDACs
